Democrats Reverse Stance on Health Care Organizational Chart for Constituent Mailings

Tensions over the Republican-created flowchart depicting the Democrat health care plan have finally subsided. House Democrats lifted their objections to using the chart in constituent mailings, according to Roll Call’s Jackie Kucinich.

The chart, created by Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Republican staff of the Joint Economic Committee, revealed a dizzying flowchart to visually depict the web of bureaucracy associated with President Obama’s sweeping health care reform.

The chart shows the numerous agencies and offices a patient would need to maneuver through before receiving any care. Republicans accused Democrats of censoring the use of the chart, which exposes the 53 new departments, agencies, and commissions that will be added to the already convoluted healthcare system. House Republicans did not hesitate to protest the denial of GOP communication with their constituents and introduced a resolution blasting Democrats for this suppression.

After a two-week delay caused by Democrat allegations of inaccuracy, the House Franking Commission permitted Republicans to send their constituents the chart — as long as it is labeled as a product of Brady and the GOP staff.
