House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.)

Rep. Hoyer had this to say regarding the proposed new tax on individuals and families of a certain income level to partially pay for a new House health reform bill:

“This is a surcharge on people making over $280,000 as an individual, $350,000 [per year] as a couple and it’s graduated, it goes up as you reach $1 million in income.”

“I don’t know many small business men or women who are making, themselves $280,000 [per year], so I’m not sure that very many small businesses are going to be affected by this.” — quotes from article in CNSNews.com (July 15, 2009)

I live in Ccngressman Hoyer's Congressional District. I have written to him numerous times about Health Care "Reform" and the devastating impact it could have on those of us with private health insurance.

Needless to say, he has not addressed any of my concerns.

I have had MS for over 30 years and I'm currently taking the immune system modulator, Avonex. This is an extremely expensive drug and my insurance covers the entire cost, except for a mere $100.00 per month.

Under Obama's plan it is likely that I and many other MS patients will no longer have access to this drug, as is the case in the U.K. where the "rationing board", the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, or NICE, determines the medical necessity of many drugs and medical procedures.

I hope the Heritage Foundation addresses this concern in its discussions with the various Congressional leaders involved in the Health "Care" Reform deliberations.

I fear that if I am unable to remain on this vital medication, the MS will progress to the point that I will be wheelchair bound for the rest of my life.
